Project Overview
The Sheyang Temporary Timber Pavilions are a series of demountable visitor facilities built across the wetlands of Yancheng, Jiangsu, where land-use designation doesn't permit permanent construction. Rather than a constraint, the brief treated this as a design premise: structures conceived from the start as temporary, touching the ground lightly and able to be removed without a trace.
Timber System and Landscape Strategy
A shared architectural system- exposed timber frames, louvered panels, and deep verandas- takes different forms across the series. Single-storey halls run along the boardwalks, while two-storey pavilions rise above the marsh, their structure left visible as both a construction logic and a design language suited to a site where nothing is meant to stay.
Veranda and Lookout Experience
The open upper levels of the two-storey pavilions serve as shaded lookouts over the marsh, while the deep verandas below extend the interior outward, framing views across the reeds and wetland channels. Visitors move through the pavilions along raised timber boardwalks, arriving beneath the same lattice-roofed structure that shelters the lookouts above.
